Vogue Verified: Why the Currentbody LED Face Mask Is Dermatologist-Approved to Treat Wrinkles, Dark Spots, and Dullness (2024)

Working in tandem, this can manifest in smoother skin (the brand’s clinicals showed improved fine lines and wrinkles in just four weeks with consistent use), a more even skin tone, reduced texture, and improved radiance.

Skin benefits aside, what’s particularly compelling about this mask is its flexible silicone shell. This may seem superfluous to users unfamiliar with these types of treatments, but this design boosts efficacy and comfort—two qualities important to Currentbody. “Home-use devices are all about consistency,” Newman says. “If you can give the customer an enjoyable, relaxing, and simple experience whilst using their chosen device, they are more likely to use it regularly and therefore achieve the results they were looking for when they made their purchase.” Because the mask fits flat across the entire face, you can ensure the lights are hitting your skin evenly through the duration of your treatment. Not to mention, it’s completely flat, so it travels well (just store it in the included dust bag, place it in your luggage, and go).

How to Use the Currentbody LED mask

This LED mask should be applied to clean, dry skin (meaning, before your chosen serums, toners, or face creams—just make sure any traces of makeup, dirt, and oil are gone). Place the mask onto your face, secure it with the velcro straps, and press the button on the controller to begin. From there, the mask has a programmed 10-minute timer that shuts off automatically. According to the brand, there is no way to overdo the treatment; 10 minutes is all you need! (FYI, doing multiple 10-minute sessions will not boost your results.) Currentbody recommends doing the treatment five times per week.

Is the Currentbody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask FDA-approved?

According to the brand, the Currentbody LED mask is FDA-cleared and clinically proven to reduce wrinkles in four weeks.

Is the Currentbody LED mask worth it?

“Currentbody LED face mask is an excellent LED treatment choice. It uses clinically proven wavelengths to reach up to 4 cm of skin tissue, stimulate the cells from within,” says Penzi. “All in all, this is a great choice to target [signs of] aging (depigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles), build collagen, and brighten overall complexion.”

My experience with the Currentbody LED mask

Generally speaking, the results of LED light masks are cumulative—meaning you should not expect to see immediate results like you might from, say, a microcurrent device. However, after using the mask, you experience the same level of radiance and plumpness as you would after a facial—which is exactly what I love. Admittedly, I consistently use an LED face mask once a week (though writing this is a reminder that I should use it more often) on my at-home skin-rejuvenation day. And this is for sure my favorite step. As someone who cannot sit still, I just tuck the controller into the pocket of my robe and go on about my day. My “spa day” is the same as my “deep clean and errands day,” so you’ll often find me dusting my room, catching up on emails, or painting my toenails (ha!) simultaneously. Because the mask fits snug onto the face, it does not budge during any of these activities. There are also little comfort goggles to help avoid looking directly into the light or having the mask fall over my eyes.

To be clear, you do not feel anything during the treatment (aside from, of course, wearing the mask), and it simply turns off when it’s done. Just take off the straps and continue with your routine as usual. I find that my skin care sinks into my skin better after the Currentbody light therapy treatment, so I like to follow with ingredients suited to my skin’s needs. Hydrating toners and an overnight mask if my skin is dry and dull, elixirs packed with exfoliating acids when my pores are enlarged or I’m experiencing breakouts, or retinol when I want to tackle all these concerns at once. I’ve been doing LED light therapy treatments at home for over a year now, and my skin has never looked better. In my opinion, it’s an excellent complement to any in-office treatments you’re getting too.

Can anyone use the Currentbody LED mask?

“Although any and everyone can benefit from LED therapy, I highly recommend this treatment for those patients with early signs of skin aging and photodamage, including having fine lines, wrinkles, and pigmentation,” Penzi says. Using the device is quite simple—and for what it’s worth, pain-free—so it’s truly a great investment for anyone.

Best Currentbody LED Light Therapy Devices

Impressed with all the details of Currentbody's LED face mask? It might do you well to consider some of the brand’s other red light therapy devices powered by the same technology. Ahead, we tapped dermatologist Dr. Azadeh Shirazi to explain why adding these tools to your routine could benefit your skin.

Currentbody LED Hair Growth Helmet

Currentbody

LED Hair Growth Helmet

  • Why We Love It: Did you know LED light therapy has shown promising results in promoting hair growth? Dermatologist Dr. Divya Shokeen MD, FAAD previously explained that the technology “stimulates hair follicles, increases blood flow to the scalp, and encourages hair regrowth.” Currentbody’s futuristic helmet gets Shirazi’s stamp of approval: “It uses 120 red LED diode bulbs and offers full scalp coverage. It’s hands-free with Bluetooth speakers, easy to use, and FDA-cleared.” Plus, there are two sizes available to ensure your chosen helmet properly fits the head for full scalp coverage.
  • Device Type: Helmet
  • Target Treatment Area: Scalp
  • Treatment Time: 10 minutes
  • Specs: FDA-cleared, red (640 nm) LED light

Currentbody LED Eye Perfector

Currentbody

LED Eye Perfector

  • Why We Love It: “Designed to target fine lines around the eyes, this hands-free device offers four powerful LED wavelengths to target collagen and elastin to help with fine lines and wrinkles,”Shirazi explains. “Integrating these precise wavelengths into your skincare routine helps enhance skin quality in the delicate eyelid skin that’s more prone to sun damage.” I like to think of this as the high-tech version of an eye cream. Instead of slathering on a wrinkle-smoothing elixir to the orbital bone twice daily, consider wearing the Currentbody LED Eye Perfector six times per week for a refreshed gaze.
  • Device Type: Eye shield
  • Target Treatment Area: Eyes
  • Treatment Time: Three minutes
  • Specs: 4 light wavelengths: amber (605nm), red (633nm), deep red (660nm) and near-infrared (830nm)

Currentbody LED Neck and Dec Perfector

Currentbody

LED Neck and Dec Perfector

  • Why We Love It: LED light therapy is touted as one of the industry’s best treatments to smooth neck wrinkles, boost elasticity, and even discoloration along the neck and décolletage. Currentbody’s Perfector uses two light wavelengths—red and near-infrared—to address the needs of the neck and chest. “A study reports microscopic analysis showed evidence of post LED treatment of thicker collagen fibers after 12 weeks of using LED masks with these specific wavelengths of light,” says Shirazi.“Its clinical study reports 95% of users felt their skin tone, texture, and firmness improved.”
  • Device Type: Mask
  • Target Treatment Area: Neck and décolletage
  • Treatment Time: 10 minutes
  • Specs: FDA-cleared, red (633nm) and near-infrared (830nm) LED light

Currentbody Anti-Acne LED Face Mask

Currentbody

Anti-Acne LED Face Mask

  • Why We Love It: If you’re looking to treat existing, or prevent future, acne, you need more than just red light. Experts say blue LED light therapy is the way to go—via a device like Currentbody’s Anti-Acne LED face mask. “Blue light helps reduce bacteria and breakouts whereas red light calms redness and inflammation,” Shirazi says. “The mask is helpful as an adjunct to medical therapy to help reduce redness and enhance healing.” That said, if reducing redness, limiting excess oil production, and clarifying pores are top skincare concerns, add this to cart.
  • Device Type: Mask
  • Target Treatment Area: Entire face
  • Treatment Time: 10 minutes
  • Specs: FDA-cleared, blue (415nm) and red (633nm) LED light

Currentbody LED Lip Perfector

Currentbody

LED Lip Perfector

  • Why We Love It: Because the skin on the lips is so thin, Shirazi notes that it can be more prone to sun damage. So, in case you want to supplement your SPF-enriched lip balm with a beauty tool, she continues that red light therapy can help restore lost collagen for a softer, smoother pout. “This LED Lip Perfector uses 56 LED bulbs that deliver powerful energy levels using four wavelengths of light shown to boost collagen and cell renewal,” she says. Just be sure to use it three minutes per day for eight weeks for best results.
  • Device Type: Lip mask
  • Target Treatment Area: Lips
  • Treatment Time: 3 minutes
  • Specs: 4 light wavelengths: amber (605nm), red (633nm), deep red (660nm) and near-infrared (830nm)

Currentbody LED Hand Perfector

Currentbody

LED Hand Perfector

  • Why We Love It: Les mains tend to be the first part of the body to show signs of aging; so you’re not alone if you’re interested in making them appear more youthful. That’s why Currentbody launched its Hand Perfector: an LED panel designed with 70 red and near-infrared bulbs meant to address dark spots, fine lines, and sagging of the hands. Plus, Shirazi notes it’s FDA-cleared and safe for all skin types.
  • Device Type: Panel
  • Target Treatment Area: Hands
  • Treatment Time: 10 minutes
  • Specs: FDA-cleared, red (633nm) and near-infrared (830nm) wavelengths
